By The Light: A Novel of Serial Homicide - Dick Peterson

Product description:

By the Light: A Novel of Serial Homicide is a fabric of suspense highlighted with threads of romance. It is a tale of a man and woman drawn into the pursuit of a serial killer that leaves two nude bodies at the foot of the Biloxi Lighthouse.

The man is a profiler who returned to the Mississippi Gulf Coast to care for his Alzheimer’s-stricken father. The woman is an Atlanta crime reporter and Edgar-winning author whose curiosity is piqued when she spots a wire report of the double homicide in her hometown.\

Travis Ford and Shay O'Connor have a past. As they discover from the corpses of couple after couple at lighthouse after lighthouse, so does a murderer that eliminates practitioners of infidelity and by signature comes to be known as Rose.

Q: What will e-readers like about your book?

One of the reader reviews at Amazon says it quite nicely:  I loved this book. In this author's first offering he demonstrates a flair for dialogue that engages the reader and brings his characters to life. The novel is part romance and part crime thriller reminiscent of early Mary Higgins Clark.  Romance aside, the crime portion of the book is as graphic as a Kay Scarpetta autopsy.

Q: Why did you go indie?

I sent out a lot of queries to agents.  Four agents who represent bestsellers requested my complete manuscript.  Six other agents requested samples of 50 or more pages.  Nobody offered representation.  I engaged an editor and made all of the recommended changes and was about to start hitting agents again when the e-book explosion occurred.  Neither my ego nor my pocketbook is large enough to go the vanity route, but Amazon’s path with Kindle books was too good to pass up.  I’ll be available to Nook readers soon and am considering print-on-demand hardcopy through Amazon’s CreateSpace.

Q: Who are your favorite authors in your genre?

From the suspense side, nobody does it better that fellow Southerner, Greg Iles.  From the romantic suspense angle, Sandra Brown got my attention with Envy (obtained it at a used book charity fundraiser) and has kept me spellbound ever since.
