Something Wicked - Sue Santore

Bio:
Sue Santore has been a factory worker, a waitress, a mother, and is now enjoying being a grandmother.  She was a middle school teacher for many years.  She loves to read and write young adult fantasy.

Book description:

SOMETHING WICKED:  Jean Ryan must learn to use her inherited magic gift before the opposing dark magic forces destroy her world. Jean and Wayne, her friend, work together to discover why her gift has attracted the attention of an evil circle of magic users and how to combat them.

As she learns to use her magic, Jean finds revenge bites backwards, friends are not always what they seem, and that magic is not a toy. In the end she has to stand alone against an evil worse than any she has ever imagined.

Although Something Wicked is the first book in a related three-book series, it does have an ending.  The book is 56,000 words or about 224 pages in print.  The second book, coming out in late 2011 is titled Something Unknown.

Question One:  I think readers will like the fast pace and action in the book.

Question Two:  I went indie because agents seem to accept clients based on their personal likes and dislikes.  I had my book reviewed by middle school students who were so enthusiastic about the story that they compared it to the Harry Potter books, but when I queried several agents, most didn't want to even look at it.

Question Three: I enjoyed reading Amanda Hocking's books.  I also like Emily Drake's Magickers Chronicles,  Diane Duane's "So You Want to be a Wizard series, Rowling's Harry Potter, Suzanne Collins's Hunger Games, and many, many others.
